Last Saturday night, WBC heavyweight titleholder Deontay Wilder and lineal champion Tyson Fury battled to a thrilling split draw in arguably the best heavyweight title showdown in the United States in over 25 years. This Saturday night, the women will take center stage as undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus and unified middleweight champion Claressa Shields will be in action on the same show, but in separate fights....

The Tigers lead the all-time series over the Fighting Irish with a record of 4-2, winning two out of the past three matchups since 2018. The last time these two teams played each other was in the ACC title game in ‘20 when Clemson crushed Notre Dame 34-10. Trevor Lawrence torched the Irish’s defense for 322 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Notre Dame also struggled to stop the Tigers on the ground, as the Tigers posted 219 yards and two touchdowns....

Some 63 percent of Americans oppose the Iraq war, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll , and they deserve better from their president than a calculated verbal assault that calls them appeasers and Fascist sympathizers. This is a new low for Bush, but not surprising given his family history. The Bushes, father and son, traditionally run viciously negative campaigns to win elections. With polls showing the Democrats poised to win control of the House and possibly the Senate, the Bushies are ramping up the rhetoric to smear the opposition....

That same day, a congressional committee issued a report documenting 400-plus contacts between indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff and the White House, and Republican congressman Mark Foley resigned after revelations that he had pursued underage congressional pages. Newhouse said the date is “burned in my mind” just like another date in another era—Oct. 19, 1982—when unemployment hit 10.1 percent and signaled big losses in Congress for the GOP and President Reagan....

A week later, when I was back home in the States after a “political pundit tour” of Israel with other journalists, the tranquil scene we had observed became the bloody launch of a new and violent wave of hostilities. Hizbullah crossed over into Israeli sovereign territory to abduct two soldiers (leaving eight others dead), prompting retaliatory bombing by Israel that has rapidly escalated into something approaching full-scale war. I remember one earnest young Israeli soldier telling us last week that all the action was in Gaza....

Don’t be prissy. The Constitution gives the president power to pardon ““for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.’’ That’s it. Nothing that says he can’t pardon himself for federal crimes, though the last clause means he can’t block his own impeachment....

The research from Stanford Law professor John Donohue and student Theodora Boulouta found that from 1994 to 2004, the Clinton-era federal assault weapons ban was associated with a marked decrease in mass shootings and victims of those shootings. According to a preliminary draft of the study, set to be published in the journal Law and Contemporary Problems, in the decade preceding the assault weapons ban, there were 33 percent additional mass shootings and 65 percent more associated fatalities....

The NBA announced Saturday that the Clippers guard has been suspended one game without pay for an “unsportsmanlike act” in Los Angeles’ Game 6 loss to Phoenix on Wednesday night. Beverley was ejected from that contest after shoving Suns star Chris Paul in the fourth quarter as both players were walking toward their respective benches. Perhaps seeing all those reminders of the Lakers' decades of success will be an inspiration to the Clippers about 6½ weeks from now, when they head into the playoffs without their intracity rivals — who are in danger of finishing with their worst record since moving to L.A. from Minneapolis in 1959. Blake Griffin had 20 points and 11 rebounds during three thunderous quarters by the Clippers, who routed the Lakers 142-94 Thursday night to extend their winning streak to a season-best six games....

Feliz was reportedly hitting 90-92 mph on the radar gun with his fastball in his Cactus League debut Sunday, significantly lower than what we're used to seeing from the flame-throwing former closer. Of course, it's only early March and Feliz claims he's not even trying to throw his hardest yet. But that's the same line we heard from Michael Pineda before he underwent shoulder surgery in 2012. There’s precedent for this idea. Hated rival Chivas, the Guadalajara-based side that with 11 has just one fewer titles than America, won the league in their 100th year, as did current champion Pachuca in 2001. But it also seems arbitrary. The standard for America is always to win the title. That’s what happens when you’re one of the league’s grandes. America has done that a dozen times in the professional era....

I hope that Clubhouse can show the big social media platforms—which Clubhouse itself is on the way to become—what we really want from social media.
