Former USC assistant coach Todd McNair sued the NCAA for defamation after it published results of the investigation into whether Reggie Bush received improper benefits at the school. McNair claims he was not aware of any violations.

Here’s the court’s ruling on his case:

In short, the court didn’t agree with everything in McNair’s lawsuit but says he provided enough information to advance this lawsuit to trial. Part of the reason the court sided with McNair is it believes the NCAA acted recklessly in its process.

The court claimed the NCAA had a “disregard for the truth” multiple times in its ruling.

Bush had to give up his Heisman Trophy and USC’s football team vacated its final two wins of the 2004 National Championship season, as well as all of its wins in 2005. The team was also banned from bowl games in 2010 and 2011 and was docked 30 scholarships over three years.

McNair’s contract was not renewed at USC in 2010, and he filed suit in 2011 as he felt his career had taken a hit from the NCAA’s ruling.
