It would have been more polite if the lovebirds had first held a press conference announcing their affection. That’s what Whitewater watchdog Sen. Al D’Amato and socialite-cum-TV-gossip Claudia Cohen did in New York last Tuesday. The duo, who met at a D.C. fund-raiser in December, played kissy-face for the cameras, and D’Amato even warbled a few bars of “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie” to the Regis and Kathie Lee sidekick, who reportedly received an $80 million divorce settlement from Revlon boss Ron Perelman last year. The amorous senator has been separated for 13 years, and his wife has agreed to a divorce. “I feel like the frog who has been kissed by the princess. Claudia is my Cinderella,” said D’Amato. You know it’s love when a politician can’t keep his fairy tales straight.
