The post was shared by u/kaksonen73 to the subreddit r/tifu, or “today I f**ked up,” on January 31. It’s titled, “TIFU by doing Molly with my husband forty-five minutes before his grandfather that we live with died.”
The Redditor recounted that the previous night they and their husband took the drug. According to the post, the couple lived with the original poster’s (OP) grandparents so that they could take care of them. The grandfather was taken to Hospice the day before.
The OP continued: “Well, about 45 minutes after taking huge doses, we get the call that he has passed, and that my husband’s entire family is on their way over to the house to console Grandma. We are so fked up when they arrive, and all we can do is sit there, drink some water, and try to keep our st together.”
The Redditor revealed they “made it through” the ordeal, and they could “only laugh about it” the following morning. The couple was “thankful” no one noticed “how f**ked up we were, and even more thankful he passed and his suffering is over [he had been sick for a very very long time].”
According to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, MDMA, or ecstasy, also known as Molly as well, is a hallucinogen known to be a “party drug,” and it comes in a pill or in a powder. It causes a variety of effects, including: “increased motor activity, alertness, heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, tremors, teeth clenching, nausea, sweating, euphoria, empathy, reduced inhibition, chills, blurred vision, confusion, anxiety, depression, paranoia, severe dehydration, [a] sharp increase in body temperature [hyperthermia], which can lead to liver, kidney, and cardiovascular failure and death.”
There were a lot of comments about the situation on Reddit. Some people had jokes about the whole thing. One person created a quote for the situation: “‘Oh we’re so sorry for your loss. Why is Swedish House Mafia playing?’” The comment had 10,000 upvotes on its own.
Another person brought up their own point about the choice of drug. “Could have been worse…At least you hadn’t dropped acid,” they said.
One Redditor thought the couple has some serious skills. “I’ve taken Molly before, and if they didn’t actually figure out something was off with you two, then you guys have some serious self-control skills,” they added.
Another thought the relatives were “just so distracted trying to make sure Grandma was OK they didn’t notice.” However, a Redditor replied with their own point: “Or, like most situations when someone’s amazed that ’nobody noticed,’ they were just purposely ignoring it.”
A user wasn’t exactly convinced the couple wasn’t noticed while tripping either, and other people seemed to agree. “There is no way you could hide a strong MDMA trip,” they said. “Your whole face changes shape lol.”
Yet not everyone is of the same mindset. “Unless you took an insane amount, you can act normal and have normal convos on Molly,” someone wrote.
A Redditor didn’t mince words. “We live with them to care for them, anyway we both decide to take heavy doses of Molly,” they commented.
Another simply asked, “You…laughed about it?”
While one Redditor wasn’t sure about how much of the story actually happened. “Cool story,” they said. “In no way is it true though.”
One viewer didn’t think the OP should feel bad as they “didn’t know,” adding, “You would have been messed up anyway. Comfort and hugs. Sorry for your loss.”
