For much of the game the story went according to plan. Uruguay struck first on a penalty kick after a Costa Rican defender was booked for a tackle inside the goal box. But it all changed in the second half.

Following a nice cross from the right side, Joel Cambell buried a shot in the back of Uruguay's net in the 53rd minute to even the game at 1-1.

Then, just four minutes later, Los Ticos struck again, as Oscar Duarte scored on a pretty diving header to give the heavy underdogs a 2-1 lead over Uruguay.

Costa Rica followed up with another goal to go up 3-1, the eventual final score. Costa Rica had never scored three goals in one World Cup game.

22 goals have been scored through the first six games of the tournament, the most in over three decades.
