McDavid served as captain for Team North America at the World Cup of Hockey and for the OHL’s Erie Otters. The generational player netted 16 goals and 32 assists last year after missing three months with a broken clavicle. He’ll look to end the Oilers playoff drought in his first full season.

“There’s no better guy to lead this team moving forward than one of the best players in the league,” Oilers goalkeeper Cam Talbot said about McDavid.

After becoming the youngest captain, the Oilers are hoping he can become the youngest to hoist a Stanley Cup.

McDavid and the Oilers begin their season next Wednesday against Calgary in the first game at their new $600 million home, Rogers Place.
