The Wall Street Journal has put together a video comparing American Pharoah’s wire-to-wire Belmont run with Big Red’s 31-length win from 42 years ago. While American Pharoah posted the sixth-best time ever in the 1 and 1/2-mile race at its current distance, he was still more than 2.5 seconds behind Secretariat’s record of 2:24 — and an estimated 13 lengths.
