Then, Indianapolis face planted. Carson Wentz faltered in the final two games of the season, failing to get past the 200-yard threshold. And following an embarrassing defeat to the lowly Jaguars in their final game of the regular season, Indianapolis was eliminated from playoff contention.

Now, there’s a new quarterback under center: former NFL MVP Matt Ryan. The weapons are there on both sides of the ball — in Taylor and linebacker Darius Leonard, the Colts possess two genuine All-Pro threats. Wideout Michael Pittman Jr. eclipsed 1,000 yards for the first time in his career, while defensive tackles DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart anchor one of the best defensive lines in football.

And if Indianapolis gets its draft picks right, it might just make a claim for another AFC South title.

Offensive Tackle: Matt Ryan turns 37 in May. While the veteran still has solid arm talent, protection is imperative for the longtime Falcon. Left tackle Eric Fisher remains unsigned, and it appears the Colts will lose him to free agency, leaving a gaping hole on the line. Perhaps perennial All-Pro Quenton Nelson can provide protection while the Colts bed in another young lineman. Wide Receiver: Pittman showed flashes of the talent that made him such a threat at USC. The 24-year old was Indianapolis’ leading receiver in 11 of its 17 games, a testament to his consistency. Behind Pittman, though, there are precious few options — no one other than Pittman surpassed the 400-yard mark last year. Tight End: Mo Alie-Cox is a solid options in open field, but the fourth-year TE has never exceeded 400 yards in a season. There’s a spattering of talented TEs that may be available to the Colts in the middle-rounds — SN’s Vinnie Iyer outlined SMU’s Grant Calcaterra as a potential option. Cornerback: The Colts were fairly average in pass defense, giving up 3,980 yards passing. They had their fair share of ballhawks, picking off QBs 19 times — the fourth-best total in the NFL. However, they also gave up 32 touchdowns in the air, the second-highest total in the league.   Kenny Moore II is a solid option at corner, but Brandon Facyson ranked as one of the worst corners in the league, according to PFF. An upgrade may be on the cards. EDGE: It’s imperative for teams to have depth in the edge rush, especially teams pushing for postseason success. Indianapolis has talent in former Pro Bowler Yannick Ngakoue, who tallied 10 sacks last year, as well as 2021 first rounder Kwity Paye. Still, the more options the merrier for Reich’s defense.
