The Ducks kept their hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff alive with a 37-35 win over Washington State last week, courtesy of a last-minute field goal from Camden Lewis.

Oregon improved to 7-1 with a seventh consecutive win and, more importantly, climbed four spots in the Associated Press Top 25 poll to No. 7—its highest ranking this season.

The trip to California is crucial for Oregon as it is the last game played before the College Football Playoff Committee releases its first rankings, just three days later.

Oregon leads the Pac-12 North and a win against the Trojans should keep it in the hunt for at least another week, depending on Utah’s result against Washington.

The No. 9-ranked Utes lead the Pac-12 South with a 7-1 record and, like Oregon, will be interested spectators when No. 6 Florida takes on No.8 Georgia in a game that could have a major impact on the playoff race.

As Utah found out earlier this season, winning on the road against USC is no easy task, with the Trojans 4-0 at home this year and 4-1 overall against Pac-12 opponents.

The statistical omens, however, are positive for Oregon. The Ducks have won three straight road games for the first time since 2015 and have triumphed in two of their last trips to Los Angeles.

Justin Herbert has undoubtedly enjoyed playing away from Oregon this season, throwing 24 touchdowns and just one interception over his last 360 pass attempts in Pac-12 road games.

The senior quarterback has thrown 2,104 yards, 21 touchdowns and just one pick so far this season, completing 68.3 percent of his passes.

Herbert has been key to Oregon’s offense, which ranks in the top 25 in total yards and points per game. The Ducks have outscored opponents 267-91 in their seven-game winning run and have been particularly strong finishers, blowing out teams by a combined 142-34 over that period.

The Trojans, meanwhile, are on a two-game winning streak after defeating Colorado on the road 35-31 in Week 9.

A win would keep USC in the hunt for the Pac-12 Championship game and make them eligible for a bowl game, which they missed out on last year.
