Forty bowl games and the small matter of the College Football Playoff championship game are all that remains of the season.
It all kicks off on Friday, when Buffalo takes on Charlotte in the Bahamas Bowl, while Utah State and Kent State collide in the Frisco Bowl.
Eight days later, the two CFP semifinals will determine who out of LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Clemson will compete for the national title on January 13.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the 40 bowl games.
When does the bowl season begin?
After a two-week break, college football returns on December 20, with the first two bowl games of the season.
Buffalo takes on Charlotte in the Bahamas Bowl, while Utah State and Kent State collide in the Frisco Bowl.
After a jam-packed week of action, the main event rolls into town on December 28 with the two College Football Playoff semifinals. As shown by this graphic provided by Statista, LSU enters the CFP as the No. 1-ranked side and takes on No. 4 Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia, while No. 2 Ohio State faces No. 3 Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.
The bowl season continues until January 6, with the CFP National Championship Game schedule for Monday, January 13.
Which teams play in the New Year’s Six bowl games?
As has been the case since the CFP’s inception in 2014, the two semifinals account for a third of the traditional New Year’s Six bowl games.
The remaining four bowl games of the New Year’s Six are the Cotton Bowl Classic on December 28, the Orange Bowl two days later and the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl scheduled for January 1. No. 17 Memphis takes on No. 10 Penn State in the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas, while No. 9 Florida faces No. 24 Virginia in the Orange Bowl in Miami.
No. 6 Oregon plays No. 8 Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, while No. 5 Georgia takes on No. 7 Baylor in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana.
