The Tigers are 4-0 but dropped to fifth in the latest Top 25 poll from the Associated Press, falling behind Ohio State, while Alabama overtook Clemson as the No. 1 ranked team in the country for the first time this year.

Inspired by Joe Burrow, LSU’s high-octane offense has torched opponents so far this season. The Tigers rank first in scoring with 57.8 points per game, second in passing offense with 431.8 yards per game and third in total offense with an average of 563.5 yards per game.

Burrow has completed 100 of his 124 passes, giving him the second-best passing efficiency figures in the country. The senior quarterback averages 380 passing yards per game, which is also the second-best figure nationwide.

On Saturday, Burrow will come up against a Utah State defense that has conceded 21.5 points per game. The Aggies are 3-1 and 2-0 against Mountain West opponents but are a 27.5-point underdog this weekend.

All the same, Utah State head coach Gary Andersen insisted his team should embrace the opportunity of playing a College Football Playoff candidate such as LSU.

“We have a tremendous opportunity,” he was quoted as saying by Deseret News. “A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly to Baton Rouge and play in that stadium against a Top 5 team. [These players] will never get that opportunity again in their lives. This team will never get that opportunity again.”

Andersen, however, admitted his team would be in for a huge challenge when it travels to Louisiana.

“They are not who they are and are not ranked where they are because they are not deserving,” he explained. “You don’t look out there and say, ‘Oh, there’s an average guy, we can work to take advantage of him.’ They fly around, they play hard and they have high expectations.”

The Tigers could welcome back starting linebackers Michael Divinity Jr. and K’Lavon Chaisson, while starting defensive Rashard Lawrence is expected to return to practice this week.

“We definitely need (Chaisson) for the pass rush,” LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said in his press conference. “And if he’s healthy, we’re going to play him. But I don’t know if he’s going to be ready.”
