The No. 6-ranked team in the nation, the Sooners are 4-0 and firmly in contention for a playoff spot after steamrolling opponents at will in their first four games.

Oklahoma averages a scarcely-believable 688 yards of total offense so far, over 100 more than the closest challenger.

Through their first four games of the season, the Sooners average 10.4 yards per offensive play, meaning effectively they gain a first down each time they have the ball.

To put the figure into context, the next best team—No. 1-ranked Alabama—averages 8.3 yards per play through its first five games. To further highlight Oklahoma’s offensive domination, it is worth considering the Sooners averaged 8.3 yards per play in 2017 with Baker Mayfield at quarterback.

The figure was a new NCAA record and trumped the school’s previous best figure of 7.1 yards per play, which had held for 46 yards. Once Kyler Murray replaced Mayfield last year, the Sooners went even better, averaging a record 8.6 yards per play.

So far this season, the Sooners have blown both previous records out of the water. Jalen Hurts has thrown for 1,295 yards and 12 touchdowns with just one interception, while completing 70.8 percent of his passes.

The senior signal-caller, who transferred to Oklahoma from Alabama in the offseason, has a quarterback rating of 97.5—the best in the country at the moment.

Hurts has also added 443 rushing yards for five scores on the ground so far and is a leading favorite to become the third consecutive Oklahoma quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy, after Mayfield and Murray lifted the award in the last two seasons.

Last week, Hurts went 17-of-24 for 415 passing yards and three passing touchdowns as the Sooners thrashed Texas Tech 55-16.

The Sooners’ offense is unlikely to slow down on Saturday against a Kansas defense that has allowed over 400 yards per game so far this season.

The Jayhawks slipped to 2-3 last week as they were thrashed 51-14 on the road by Texas Christian University. They currently sit seventh in the Big 12 standings, explaining why they are 35.5-point underdogs going into Saturday.

Kansas coach Les Miles made no mystery of the size of the challenge facing his team this weekend.

“They have a group of receivers that are big and strong and capable and a nice offensive line that can protect them and Jalen Hurts is a known commodity and a great player and certainly a capable passer,” he told USA Today.

“They have all the goods.”

Here’s all you need to know ahead of Saturday.
