The Buckeyes kicked off Big Ten play last weekend with a resounding win in Bloomington, Indiana.
Justin Fields had 199 yards and three touchdowns as Ohio State routed the Hoosiers 51-10, while J.K. Dobbins rushed for 193 yards and a score over 22 carries.
The No. 6 ranked team in the country, Ohio State has displayed some much-needed offensive balance so far, averaging 46 points per game.
The Buckeyes average 499 yards per game and have been very efficient on third down, converting on 54.3 percent of occasions.
First-year coach Ryan Day, however, insisted his team had a major room for improvement.
“We played well, but we didn’t play great,” he said in his press conference on Tuesday, when asked about the game against Indiana.
“We played hard, we played tough, but there are so many things to clean up.”
Ohio State’s performances have caught the eye of its rivals during the first three weeks of the season, but Day insisted it is far too soon to believe the hype.
“If we want to get to where we want to go, we have to take it one week at a time,” he added. “If we train the way we train, Saturdays will take care of themselves.”
Fields has been a key factor in the Buckeyes’ offense so far.
The quarterback has hit the ground running since transferring to Ohio State from Georgia in the offseason.
Fields had 657 passing yards in the first three games of the season with nine touchdowns and no interceptions, giving him a quarterback rating of 92.9, the third-highest in college football, behind Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.
On the face of it, Miami is unlikely to give Day sleepless nights in the lead-up to Saturday, as the RedHawks are 1-2 this season.
A 35-13 loss against Cincinnati last Saturday doesn’t bode well for the RedHawks this weekend, as the Bearcats were thrashed 42-0 by Ohio State two weeks ago.
Miami has allowed an average of 30 points per game and has struggled to move the ball, scoring more than 15 points in just one occasion so far this season.
