In a nod to the scandal over Clinton’s affair with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky, Colbert said he didn’t think the former president could “lecture anyone” on what should happen in the Oval Office.

The comedian rebuked Clinton shortly after the ex-commander-in-chief lashed out at Trump and backed Biden during a speech on the second day of the Democratic National Convention.

“Donald Trump says we’re leading the world, well we are the only major industrial country to have its unemployment rate triple,” Clinton said. “At a time like this, the Oval Office should be a command center, instead it’s a storm center. It’s only chaos.”

He also condemned the president for “spending hours a day watching TV” and “zapping people on social media” amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Responding to the speech on the Late Show last night, Colbert said: “Alright, that’s true, that’s a good point. But, I don’t think Bill Clinton gets to lecture anyone on what should happen in the Oval Office. Those in glass houses should not be allowed near the interns.”

Earlier in the program, the comedian also joked about Clinton’s connection to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

Over a picture of Clinton looking stunned, Colbert said: “Bill Clinton, seen here finding out Ghislaine Maxwell was just arrested.”

Newsweek has contacted a representative of former President Clinton for comment. This article will be updated with any response.

At the end of July, Clinton again denied ever visiting Epstein’s private Little St. James Island after unsealed court documents revealed that Virginia Guiffre had told her lawyer that she had seen the former president on the island.

“I remember asking Jeffrey what’s Bill Clinton doing here [on Epstein’s island] kind of thing, and he laughed it off and said well he owes me favors,” Guiffre said.

“He’s not spoken to Epstein in well over a decade, and has never been to Little St. James Island, Epstein’s ranch in New Mexico, or his residence in Florida,” Clinton spokesperson Angel Ureña told Newsweek in a statement at the time.

“He’d not spoken to Epstein in well over a decade,” Ureña added. “Well before his terrible crimes came to light.”
