CNN’s Mathew Chance was reporting on a bridge in Kyiv following a battle between Ukrainian and Russian soldiers.

While explaining the scenes he was seeing, Chance realized he was crouching right beside an unexploded grenade.

He quickly repositioned and continued to highlight the destroyed tanks and vehicles on the bridge.

The video was posted on social media by fellow CNN reporter Natasha Bertrand and has so far been viewed over 40,000 times.

Chance also reflected on Ukraine’s ability to fight back the Russian invading forces, thanks to the support provided by European nations.

“[Ukraine] has been bolstered by the arrival of stinger missiles and anti-tank missiles from the United States and other countries in the west,” he said during his broadcast.

“Just yesterday, Sweden announced that it was delivering 5,000 anti-tank missiles to this country to help Ukrainians defend against the Russian invasion.

“It is with the help of that weaponry that they have been able to really cause the Russians a significant amount of pain.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has continuously updated his Twitter page since the invasion began.

Along with condemning Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions, he has praised European leaders for their support.

Many European leaders have imposed tough sanctions on Moscow as a response to its invasion of Ukraine.

Zelensky has also called on the European Union to immediately allow Ukraine to become a member of the bloc.

On Monday, Zelensky highlighted the conversations he has been having with European leaders in his bid to have Ukraine quickly become a member.

“Had a phone conversation with [President of the European Commission] Ursula von der Leyen,” he tweeted.

“Talked about concrete decisions on strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, macro-financial assistance and Ukraine’s membership in the EU.”

In another tweet, he wrote: “I am grateful to Romania for its significant contribution to the defense capabilities of our country.

“I am grateful to Klaus Lohannis for supporting Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. We feel the political and defense support of our partners.”

The President has also called on citizens to take up arms against Russian invaders.

In an address on February 28, he said that everyone who can “join the struggle against the invaders must do so”. He added that the country is dedicating “every minute” to the conflict.

He also noted that prisoners with military experience would be released from custody to help with the fight.

“Ukrainians with real combat experience will be released from custody and will be able to compensate for their guilt in the hottest spots,” Zelensky said.

“All sanctions against some individuals who participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation will be lifted. The key thing now is defense.”
