The hosts were speaking about a New York Post report that stated an activist investor, Cliff Robbins, has been “prodding” Dolan to sell minority stakes for the Knicks and the New York Rangers.

“Robbins, who’s Blue Harbour Group hedge fund owns a 4 percent stake in MSG [Madison Square Garden], said he thinks the Knicks and Rangers combined should be worth $7.2 billion, far higher than the $5.55 billion price tag they have been given by Forbes,” the Post report said.

This report comes just a few days after the newspaper reported that a Silicon Valley investment firm was looking to purchase a stake in the Knicks and Rangers.

Dolan is currently very unpopular from a fan perspective and this is not the first time the idea of him selling the team has been proposed. While leaving a Knicks game last season, a fan heckled Dolan and yelled: “sell the team!” Dolan responded by saying “oh you think I should sell the team?” and asked the fan if he didn’t want to come to games anymore.

According to TMZ, the fan was escorted out of Madison Square Garden by two cops and later was informed that he was banned from the arena for good.

Former Knicks player Charles Oakley, who was also escorted from the arena in 2017 following an altercation with a security guard, criticized Dolan after the fan was banned. “He just bullies people because he has money and power,” Oakley told the Associated Press.

Knicks fans have been open about their distaste for Dolan amid a six-year playoff drought, but it has become more apparent following an offseason filled with letdowns. Prior to the start of the 2019 season, many people, as well as Dolan, believed that the Knicks would become the new home to big-name free agents like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

“I can tell you from what we’ve heard, we’re going to have a very successful offseason when it comes to free agents,” Dolan said while appearing on ESPN’s The Michael Kay Show in March.

Dolan’s comments sparked excitement across the team’s fanbase but were quickly let down when the Brooklyn Nets, the team’s New York rival, signed both Irving and Durant during the offseason.

Sorkin also stated how the NBA would feel if Dolan did decide to sell the team. “The other owners in the NBA have for so long wanted the Knicks to do well because it would help everything,” Sorkin said.

The Knicks are currently in last place in the Eastern Conference with a 1-7 record, and are set to take on the Dallas Mavericks on November 8.
