The clip which has been viewed more than 4 million times and received 380,000 likes shows images of William and Kate out on the town enjoying time with friends and has seen the couple praised in the comments section as “normal” and “free-spirited.”

TikTok has seen a large number of royal-related uploads from royal watchers offering commentary on the modern monarchy to users sharing funny and little known archive footage.

As a service, in 2021 49 percent of TikTok users were under the age of 30 according to data provided by Statista. Of that 49 percent, 25 were found to be aged between 10 to 19.

This exposure has seen a number of young people engage with content on members of the royal family which may have occurred before they were born.

Many of the images shown of William and Kate in the viral video were taken in the early 2000s before the couple married in 2011. At this time, after graduating from university where they became a couple, Kate was working in London and William was training at the Sandhurst military academy.

On the video titled party hard like normal young people, one user commented that the couple were “just like all young people..that is nice….and normal,” with another adding:

“Couples who rave together stay together”

One image from the video shows Kate in the back of a taxi after a party taking a defiant image of the photographer with her camera phone. “I love how Kate took a photo of the paparazzi” one user said.

Despite the happy-go-lucky image presented of Kate and William in the TikTok video, this period of time was noted as being particularly difficult for the future duchess as she found herself in a holding period between becoming a royal girlfriend and a potential engagement.

Royal author and former editor of Vanity Fair, Tina Brown, examined in her recently released book The Palace Papers: Inside the house of Windsor, the Truth and the Turmoil, how Kate was constantly under the spotlight wherever she went—including nightclubs.

“Kate was relentlessly pursued in London. She was hounded when she left her Chelsea apartment in ways reminiscent of the harassment of the young Lady Di,” she wrote highlighting the sometimes all too real parallels between the treatment of William’s mother and girlfriend by the media.

This included an incident in October 2007 where in “a horribly ironic echo of the past” the paparazzi “gave chase” to the couple’s car “as Kate left a nightclub with William.”

Despite any issues with the press the couple may have had it did not prevent them from socializing with friends often, before settling down somewhat and announcing their engagement in December 2010.

Since then the Cambridges have had three children, Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 3. Though the couple still like to let their hair down despite their more formal and conservative outward appearance while undertaking official royal duties.

During their highly-contentious tour of the Caribbean in March this year the couple gave a rare glimpse of their lighter side as they danced jokingly together during a traditional Garifuna festival on a visit to Belize.

William and Kate celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary in April.
