The clip, captioned, “Sometimes you get strange orders at Dominos #pizza,” has been viewed 4.4 million times and liked 113,000 times since it was shared on February 24. The video, posted by @beth_dutton, or Beth, featured the TikToker in work attire as she removed a pizza void of any toppings, cheese, or sauce from the oven as music played.
According to Statista, in the United States, $14 billion was spent on pizza delivery in 2020. The number has increased from the previous year in 2019, which clocked in with $11 billion spent in total.
Apparently, the pizza was from an online order, and an attempt was made to call the customer to confirm the details, garnering no response. The TikToker laughed as she placed the pizza down on the counter.
“Yummy,” the worker said as the TikToker grabbed a box, placing the pizza inside of it. “Make sure all the toppings are even, alright,” the TikToker said, touching the crust with a pizza cutter. Next, she cut the pizza into slices, asking if she should put garlic on it.
The garlic was then added along the outer edges of the crust before the worker closed the box, and the video cut off. In a comment, the TikToker revealed the order was for a Hawaiian pizza “minus everything,” which came out to a total of $33.
One viewer said the same thing happened at their store with an online order, and the customer said the store made the order incorrectly. The creator of the clip replied back: “This was literally the exact same thing, about 10 minutes after I delivered it because they wouldn’t pick up their phone. They called back.”
Over 1,000 comments came rolling in over the viral pizza order, dividing viewers. Some seemed to be open to trying the pizza that way. “Not gonna lie…That still looks good,” a TikToker admitted.
Others thought there might be a reason the pizza was ordered plain. “Some people like to use their own sauce and toppings, but prefer a better crust,” a viewer pointed out.
One TikToker revealed they’ve ordered the same thing before. “So many food allergies, aversions, and lifestyles in my house,” they added.
Explanations for the order were everywhere. “Probably a prank,” another TikToker weighed in.
While some thought it might have to do with a pregnancy craving. “I think the one who ordered that is pregnant,” a viewer said.
However, not everyone seemed to appreciate the pizza without toppings. “Omg I just threw up in my mouth,” a TikToker wrote.
Others had comments like, “This is upsetting,” and “That customer should be banned out of principle and love of pizza.”
Still others referenced a meme called “None Pizza with Left Beef,” which occurred when Steve Molaro shared an image of his Domino’s order on his blog, The Sneeze, and he chose no cheese or sauce, adding just beef on the left side of the pizza, according to Gizmodo. One person asked, “Where’s the left beef?”
Newsweek reached out to TikToker @beth_dutton and Domino’s for comment.
