Doctors have recommended Lee undergo surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his elbow, but he is trying to avoid that. He has been shut down from throwing, and will be periodically evaluated by the team to determine when he can begin throwing again.
If surgery becomes necesarry, the 36-year-old lefty will almost certainly miss the entire 2015 season. This could become a carrer-threatening injury even if he does undergo surgery.
Lee went 4-5 with a 3.65 ERA last season in just 13 starts. He will be paid $25 million this season.
