“These revelations are truly shocking and proof positive that we need a code of ethics for the United States Supreme Court,” Blumenthal said, according to Robert Costa of CBS News. “The Supreme Court cannot be treated differently than other federal courts.”
Clarence Thomas has ruled in favor of former President Donald Trump in cases that have come before the Supreme Court, including when he was the lone dissenting justice in a January case that led to documents from the administration being turned over to the House committee. In February 2021, Thomas was one of three conservative justices who dissented when the Court dismissed Trump’s challenges to the election results in a lawsuit focusing on the legality of mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania.
The dozens of text messages between Ginni Thomas and Meadows reported by The Washington Post and CBS News revealed her urging Meadows to stand with others within the Trump administration who were making unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud and working to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
“Help This Great President stand firm Mark!!!” one of the messages stated. “…You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.”
The texts were revealed in more than 9,000 pages of documents from Meadows that the January 6 committee is reviewing, including over 2,300 texts.
“Biden crime family & ballot fraud co-conspirators (elected officials, bureaucrats, social media censorship mongers, fake stream media reporters, etc) are being arrested & detained for ballot fraud right now & over coming days, & will be living in barges off GITMO to face military tribunals for sedition,” Thomas wrote in a November 5 text, repeating claims circulating among believers of QAnon and other conspiracy theories, according to The Post.
Of the 29 messages, 21 were sent by Thomas and eight were responses from Meadows, all sent from November 5, 2020, through January 10, 2021, with a gap from late November until January 10, days after the January 6 Capitol riot, The Washington Post added.
“Evil always looks like the victor until the King of Kings triumphs,” Meadows reportedly wrote in one response. “Do not grow weary in well doing. The fight continues. I have staked my career on it. Well at least my time in DC on it.”
Other lawmakers, including Senator Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, have said Clarence Thomas, recently released from the hospital following an unspecified infection, should recuse himself from any case related to January 6 or the 2024 election if Trump runs again and a case is brought to the Supreme Court. Others have called on Thomas to resign or to face an impeachment, Newsweek has reported.
Newsweek contacted Blumenthal’s office for further comment.
