Posted on Reddit and upvoted more than 77,000 times, the adorable video posted on Tuesday shows the moment a pup joins in during a scene from The Lion King as all the animals on screen bow.

Cats and dogs might not always be known for their mutual respect, but this movie-buff pet is seen pushing her face right up to the screen, watching the Disney classic that was released in 1994 and won several Academy Awards and Golden Globes.

In the scene where animated lion Simba is introduced, as the song “Circle of Life” plays, the animals bow on screen and the black and white pooch joins in.

Delighted by the adorable video, it has already amassed hundreds of comments on Reddit. The poster on the discussion forum later credited Instagram user @kayleestover_ for the video.

The pooch is far from the only four-legged friend to enjoy a little bit of TV time. A 2013 study published in the journal Animal Cognition said that dogs can identify images of other dogs, humans as well as other animals using their visual sense alone.

Plus, it turns out it’s not just dogs that enjoy The Lion King, as seen when these cats recreated another iconic scene.

The dog, named Findi, lives with owner Kaylee who said: “She loves watching TV! She will watch just about anything but her favourite things are animals or sports.

“We will typically catch her wagging her tail, but I couldn’t believe we happened to catch her mimicking the animals in The Lion King this time!”

Some Redditors were a little more skeptical about the dog’s reaction, suggesting it was more likely his behavior was a little more canine.

“The dog is doing it, because this is how dogs signal to each other that they want to play. They bow first to each other. Dog wants to play, super cute,” wrote user csoszi.

Another user said: “Dogs simply responding to the play bows. For K9s it signals you’re not a threat and want to play.”

Founder and owner of the U.K,-based dog training company Nose to Trail and clinical animal behaviorist, Rachel Rodgers told Newsweek: “While most pet dogs will just prick their ears up and pay attention to certain sounds or movements, some dogs with higher prey drives can be really stimulated by visuals of animals running across the TV screen. In one extreme case I have worked with, the dog had actually lunged and broken three TVs before they contacted me for help!”

But is this pup really responding to what he sees on the TV?

“It is not beyond the realms of possibility that the dog in the video is mimicking the animals on the screen who are also bowing in a similar fashion,” said Rodgers. “It is also possible that this initially happened by coincidence, the dog could have been stretching and settling to lie down and it happened to occur at the same time as the animals did something similar on the screen.

“If the owners happened to see this they would likely have rewarded the dog, even unintentionally with a positive response, which could mean that the dog is more likely to do it again in the future.”
