The last of Season 12’s couples will tie the knot on the next episode of the show, and it’s not long after Paige says “I do” to Chris—the man MAFS relationship experts Pastor Calvin Robertson, Dr. Pepper Schwartz and Dr. Viviana Coles have matched her with—that drama starts to unfold.
Just like every other couple to wed on the series, Paige and Chris are whisked away to a private room where they get their first opportunity to talk. In a Newsweek exclusive sneak peek of episode 3 (above), the newlyweds quickly discover something that they have in common: They both have tattoos.
Paige reveals that she has three tattoos and Chris shows her the only one that he has, which is etched on the inside of his wrist. It’s a cross with a crown on it, which he explains represents King Jesus. “That’s dope,” Paige says in the clip before noticing how new the tattoo is.
“Looks fresh,” she points out.
The reason why Chris’ tattoo looks so new is because it is. He explains that he only got the tattoo a few days before their wedding, which prompts Paige to ask: “Why did you get that? What inspired you to get that?”
It’s only natural for Paige to assume that Chris got the tattoo to signify his religion. However, the real reason behind the fresh ink on his skin is more alarming.
“So, to be perfectly honest with you. Last year, me and my ex, we got our names tatted on us,” Chris reveals.
The scene flashes to a clip of Paige in a MAFS confessional wearing a completely shocked expression on her face before cutting back to Chris.
“And I never had a chance to get it covered up, and I was like, ‘I gotta do this now,’ so I had to do that,” he continues.
Paige looks totally shocked by the news, and it’s written all over her face how uncomfortable she is to learn that the man she just married was not only in a committed relationship with another woman a year ago, but that he only recently felt the need to have his tattoo of an ex-girlfriend’s name covered up. If it’s only been a year since Chris and his former partner got their names tattooed on their bodies, when exactly did they break up?
Married at First Sight airs on Lifetime on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
