In addition to reports that James and his handlers were talking with at least a half-dozen teams, news indicated Bosh was drawing increasing attention. Why? Carmelo Anthony seemed close to a new deal with the New York Knicks, raising Bosh in the hierarchy of players seeking contracts.

Enter the Houston Rockets. Bosh figures in their plans, which include a possible cap-clearing deal sending Jeremy Lin to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Riley wanted James, Bosh and Dwyane Wade out of their contracts and into something a bit more cap-comfortable. When the Big Three complied, it appeared the Heat plan was a go.

Then James began talk of a max contract. Bosh now seems likely to want the same. Only Wade, who would have been overpaid had he stayed put, might accept the Heat’s offer.

The Rockets also have an edge in their pursuit of Bosh, in that they would bring him home to Texas. He would be cast on a forward line with Dwight Howard, adding a 3-point shot to open room inside, and have a support player in James Harden.

Some reports suggest Bosh is after a four-year deal. Others say five years at $90 million. Those figures were posited this week by Fox Sports Ohio.
